At Ideal Commercial Heating, we believe supporting our customers means much more than simply supplying highly efficient commercial heating products. We are continually looking for ways to make specification, design and installation quicker, simpler and more straightforward for contractors, consultants and specifiers.
That customer-first approach is exactly why we offer not one, but two dedicated online Cascade Configurator tools; one for our Evomax 2 – the UK’s number one wall mounted commercial boiler - and one for Imax Xtra 2 floor standing boiler which is small on size, but big on performance.
Why cascade commercial boilers?
In commercial buildings where heating and hot water demand changes throughout the day, multiple smaller boilers working together can often provide a more responsive and efficient solution than one larger boiler. Boilers within the cascade can modulate in sequence as demand changes, helping improve seasonal efficiency whilst reducing unnecessary cycling.
Cascade systems also offer improved resilience. If one boiler requires maintenance or experiences downtime, the remaining boilers within the system can continue operating, helping maintain continuity of service.
A great example can be seen at Hayling Island Sailing Club where 3 Evomax 2 120kw boilers have been installed in cascade providing 360kw output for the clubhouse and showers. Tony Stockton, Mechanical Project Manager (Technical Services) at J&B Hopkins, responsible for the installation, comments: “I like to cascade the boilers as they offer good resilience. This is particularly important for this installation as the hot water demands are horrendous in that there is infrequent demand for a large part of the year but then during regattas there could be 500 showers in two hours!”
In many projects, using several smaller boilers can also simplify plant room access and reduce space requirements compared to installing one larger unit.
Are cascades difficult to design, install and commission?
Designing a cascade boiler system can sometimes feel complicated, particularly when multiple accessories, hydraulic separation options and plant room limitations need to be considered.
However, with the right support and equipment, a cascade really is very straightforward.
What is a Cascade Configurator and why use one?
The Cascade Configurators online tool is designed to help simplify the process and enable customers to arrive at the right solution quickly and accurately.
Available for both our wall mounted Evomax 2 and floor standing Imax Xtra 2 commercial boiler ranges, the Cascade Configurators guide users through a series of straightforward questions about their project requirements. Once completed, the tool generates a complete cascade package tailored to the installation, including a clear schedule of all required components, which can either be downloaded as a PDF or sent directly by email.
By streamlining specification in this way, we help reduce design time and minimise the risk of missing key components, ultimately making life easier for everyone involved in the project.
How quickly can a cascade be built?
We’ve timed it, and can confirm a cascade can be built in under 90 minutes! Check out our cascade installation videos showing three Evomax 2 boilers being installed in cascade using our prefabricated frame and header kits, and three 80kW Imax Xtra 2 boilers in cascade.
What cascade accessories should I consider?
Alongside our configurators, we offer a wide range of cascade accessories, including prefabricated frame and header kits, hydraulic separation options and insulation packages, all designed to simplify installation and reduce time spent on site.
What’s more, all of our products – including accessories - have market-leading availability and come with nationwide support from our Business Development Managers and engineers.
