Ideal Heating sponsors Engineer of the Year at CIBSE Building Performance Award

It’s the biggest celebration of engineering excellence in the built environment and this year’s Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Building Performance Awards was bigger and better than ever!  As with previous years, Ideal Heating Commercial was delighted to once again sponsor the prestigious Engineer of the Year Award.  Our very own Richard Brown, Head of Specification Sales, presented the award on stage to Philip Draper, Managing Director at Twenty One Engineering.

According to the judges, Philip embodies the essence of engineering leadership.  His unique blend of creativity and practical delivery of innovation, plus his passion for the advancement and expansion of engineering made him the stand out candidate.  Commenting on his award win, Philip, who is also Vice Chair at the CIBSE HVAC Group, said: “I’m so pleased to have won this award! My background to getting to this point has been different from the past winners, starting out as a maintenance electrician then factory engineer at Teledyne e2v, then to ep&t global as the UK's first Engineering support, before time with British Land as a Senior Sustainability Manager, before starting Twenty One Engineering! I have enjoyed my route to a Fellow and hopefully I can share my experiences with the next generation.”

The Awards, which took pet place on 29th February at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, are designed to bring together industry leaders and innovators, and to honour the people who have advanced the building industry.  This year saw the introduction of several new award categories to address the changing nature of best practice in the building sector, bringing sustainability and energy efficiency to the fore.  Each award entry is meticulously evaluated and there is an emphasis on data-driven performance assessment, making everyone shortlisted a worthy candidate.

Richard Brown explains the decision behind Ideal Heating’s sponsorship: “This is the sixth year in a row that we have sponsored the Engineer of the Year award and every year I’m astonished by the level of talent in the room.  The Building Performance Awards recognises the most exceptional people and organisations in our industry and also rewards their incredible commitment.  These are the people that are helping to make our built environments better places in which to live and work, and that are firmly focussed on net zero.  This is certainly the case when it comes to Philip’s company, Twenty One Engineering, which provides energy management and automated meter reading systems to improve the efficiency of HVAC equipment, reducing organisation’s carbon footprint and energy spend.  Congratulations for a well deserved win, but also congratulations to all those shortlisted across the range of award categories.”
